Arts

For the first time JWB decided to celebrate our arts program by organising an Art Night. The grade 8’s created an art piece that drew inspiration from two different artists, all their artwork being displayed through the halls. There was also a concert that took place in the gym, with performances from the Junior and Senior Concert Bands, as well as performances from the choir. All in all the Arts Night was a big success, showing off the students’ artistic skills at JWB.

Sports

This month, Track and Field took place at our school. After selecting the teams on the track day, we got right to work practicing for the meets. The grades 3,4 and 5 relay meet took place this month, and the grades 6,7 and 8 track meet took place as well. Our students did amazing at these competitions! JWB has so much talent!

Leadership

The 5th annual JWB Fun Fair took place on Thursday, June 2nd, 2016. Hundreds of kids and their parents crowded the school yard and the gym to take place in plenty of fun and interesting activities! There was face painting, food vendors, a silent auction, raffle baskets, balloon animals, bouncy castles and many booths, including some Leadership initiatives as well. Some fun games littered the “fairgrounds” as well, and the parking lot was jam-packed.

All proceeds from the Fun Fair are going to a good cause as well. Proceeds are going to a school sign for the front of the school and learning resources for classrooms.

A big thank you to everyone who showed up and all the volunteers, students and teachers who took part in the 5th Annual Fun Fair!

Learning - Grade 7 Dundurn Castle

The grade 7’s had a fantastic day at Dundurn Castle! As they explored the castle built in Hamilton during the time of 1835, the students marvelled at the the gas lighting and running water that was so advanced for the time. Along with the castle, students were in awe by the reconstructed World War 1 trench and immersed in history surrounding the War of 1812 and the Rebellion of 1837. The best part of the trip was the military march across the field! Charge!!!

Giving Back

As a way to give back to the community this month the grade 7 students in Me to We have all been assigned to figure out a way to recognize our local heroes such as fire fighters and policemen. All month the grade 7’s have been planning and organising on how they will demonstrate our appreciation, I’m sure they will be very happy with what the grade 7’s have prepared for them.

Special Events

A special event that occurred in our school this month was Junglesport. In celebration of our 5th anniversary, Junglesport came in for a full week. Each class got a few Junglesport periods where they got to experience the cool activities. Everyday, a new activity was added to the structure. Everybody loved this week full of fun, and can't wait for more like it as we approach the end of the year!
