June 2016

Learning

To help the grade 8s understand physics, science was combined with D&T (design and technology) to create the rube goldberg projects. This project lasted for about 2 months and required the use of 6 simple functional machines, the students cutting, screwing and sanding all the wood that they used. Though there were some rube goldberg's that did not work, the skills that were used were amazing.

Arts

The gym and parking lot was totally filled up for the Junior Concert, on Tuesday, June 21st. Our annual Junior Concert is the time for the juniors, ranging from Grades 4-6, to showcase off their musical and artistic talents!

There were many different instruments and noises present, with ukuleles, drums, singing and orchestra instruments all popping up sometime during the performance.

JWB’s awesome music program starts at Grade 4, where children will learn to play the ukulele and other types of interesting instruments. At Grade 5, kids will actually begin to play orchestra instruments, giving them four entire years to learn how to play their clarinet or saxophone or whatever instrument they choose to play.

We hope to see you at our next Junior Concert!

Sports

Even though, it’s June, sports are not yet over at JWB! One of the events that took place this month was the junior track and field meet. In May, our 6, 7 and 8’s went to the senior meet and did great. This month, our 3, 4 and 5’s went and participated in the meet. The junior’s did great, testimony to the fact that our younger students are just as talented as our older ones. However, the sports scene is not limited to the track meet. The boys and girls soccer teams were hard at work, coming early to school for practices and staying late after for games. We are proud of their hard work and are amazed at their incredible talent!

Leadership

For the last Friday of the school year, we had to have a Spirit Day! Your dream occupation was the theme, and students (and staff) were encouraged to dress up as what they aspire to be. There were many different careers that we saw, including golfers, retired teachers, tennis players and interior designers. What a great way to finish off the year and bring school spirit to JWB!

Giving Back

Each year, to celebrate and thank all the volunteers that come to our school, the school invites them to a volunteer tea. Food and drinks are provided for the volunteers with student presentations throughout this event. This year, there were presentations done by Mme. Roundell’s grade 5 class as well as a book and video done by the grade 8s on the leadership team. We appreciate all of the help from our community volunteers!

Special Events

JWB’s first talent show was a sight to see! Students from all different grades were invited to try out in the hopes of being apart of the show. Some exceptional students were chosen to share their talents with the school. Out of 60 students who tried out, only 20 were chosen to move onto the big stage. Brooke and Eric from 8-1FI also did an amazing job MC-ing the event and helping it flow more smoothly. Those talents include; impersonations, singing, piano and dancing. Is it any wonder that we have so much talent at JWB?! The students here really know how to strut their stuff and shine like stars. I wonder what Mr. M’s talent is???

Congrats to all our performers, and everybody who tried out. You are all winners! Thanks to all the teachers and students who put their time into this event!
